Crowdsourcing

Category: Buzzwords

Crowdsourcing is basically the act of polling a crowd of people on the internet in search of an answer. Crowsourcing can also be used to find help on any given subject or problem. On any given day you can find many people using social networks such as twitter, myspace, or facebook to crowdsource.

Crowdsourcing works similar to the audience lifeline found the hit television show Who wants to be a millionaire. When an audience lifeline was used by a contestant on the show to answer a hard question, the contestant could poll the audience for the correct answer. The audience would type in what they thought was the correct answer and after 30 seconds or so, the results would be displayed by percentage. The highest percentage generally was the answer the audience was suggesting and the audience was always right. This is the power of crowdsourcing.

I Eat Puppies

Category: Fashion, Fun

The social network site I’m In Like With You has a new shirt up for sale that we think is pretty cute. The shirt’s concept was created by the site’s owner during the time he lived in Korea. The shirt comes only in pink and proudly boasts “I Eat Puppies”. This shirt is a must have for any social networking geek. Internet celebrity iJustine has been known to wear this shirt from time to time. You can purchase the “I Eat Puppies” shirt from the I’m In Like With You Store.

Geek Hot Moblog Announced

Category: Music, Photocast, Technology

Today, I am officially announcing the launch of the Geek Hot Moblog. A moblog is basically a “mobile blog” in which a blogger can post content from his or her mobile phone or smartphone. I own an iPhone with a pretty nice camera on it and an unlimited data-plan, that I don’t use enough of. The iPhone combined with the Flickr mobile tools makes a pretty good tool for moblogging. Flickr and my iPhone have given me the ability to photocast and I have plans to document interesting events that happen in my life as they happen.

On a side note, I am traveling to New Orleans with a group of friends this weekend by train. I will be photocasting my trip, so stop back by and check my weekend’s progress.

Helicopter On A Turntable
A helicopter is standing on a landing pad that can move (like a giant turntable). This turntable has a control system that tracks the helicopter’s blade speed and matches the speed of the turntable to be exactly the same (but in the opposite direction).

Will the helicopter be able to take off?

Featured in Alltop

I recently got selected to be on the alltop website under the “Twitterati” section. I would like to thank Dana Franks for recommending me. I did not ask to be here and I have no idea what I did to deserve this, but it’s great! It is a honor to share the same page with a few of those I identify as Internet Celebrities such as Chris Brogan, Leo Laporte, Guy Kawasaki, Chris Pirillo, iJustine, Zefrank, and Gary Vaynerchuk.

In many ways being recognized on Alltop is forcing me to focus more on my ideas for Geek Hot. It’s nice to have a little encouragement from the community to follow my dreams. I have some good ideas for this site. Let’s hope I can pull them off!

Colorwars Challenge Suggestion

Category: Fun, Twitter

For any of you who have been following the colorwars on twitter, zefrank has asked for suggestions on a new challenge. Here is my idea for the next colorwars challenge:

My idea is basically around the idea of playing Capture the Flag. I was trying to think of something that could best involved the team as a whole and allow the team to work together towards an ultimate goal. Capture the Flag will require a lot of strategy and organization to really get anything accomplished.

Here is a suggested way Capture the Flag could be played:
1. Each team needs to create a flag of a certain size and post it to the colorwars website for reference.
2. Each team needs to select one person to lead the team and to hide the flag somewhere publicly on the internet in a blog, forum, newsgroup, etc (hopefully this can be done easily). The image must be referenced by a webpage and can not be a hidden image on a website.
3. The team leader will need to report the location of the flag back to the colorwars website.
4. The flag will need to be validated by the organizers of colorwars.
5. Teams will search the internet for opposing teams flags and when it is found, post the link to the colorwars website which will verify if the link is a flag.
6. Capturing an opposing team’s flag will take the team out of the competition.
7. Last team with a flag still standing wins!

On a side note, hiding the flag on the internet as a whole might take a long time to find the flag, however, enforcing the flag to be placed on one of a 1000 or so suggested websites might speed the process up.

Go OrangeTeam!
